At Napa Tae Kwon Do, students are given the opportunity to participate in one of the newest Olympic sports. Some of the benefits offered to them from Taekwondo competition include learning to form successful strategies and techniques for self defense, demonstrating their grace and poise under pressure, and gaining a sense of accomplishment as goals are met. While striving to win, our emphasis is on what students can take home with them besides a medal.
In competition, we foster the enjoyment of trying your best, competing with your peers, good sportsmanship, and improving your skills.
In selecting tournaments to attend, we look for experienced officials, reasonable fees, and good management with an emphasis on safety. Students are encouraged to practice the techniques learned in class, and are paired with others of the
same age, gender, size, and belt skill level.
Tournaments are announced on our event calendars and applications are available on request. We will meet in front of the school on the day of the event for those wishing to "caravan".
Students holding the rank of Red belt and above are encouraged to participate in the Olympic sparring class, particularly those advanced students who wish to compete. This is an additional class offering supplemental practice to the regularly held classes. Doing one's best in preparation for a competition is part of the participation.
