Karate vs. Judo: Karate and Judo are both martial art and sport. Both are defensive in nature. Both promote a martial way of living. The difference between Karate and Judo relies in the doctrine of each. Karate is primarily a striking art, including blocking, parying and free-standing fighting. Judo is a grappling art. It emphasizes locks, holds, throws, and takedowns to subdue an attacker. It could loosely be said that Karate is to kickboxing as Judo is to wrestling. Taekwondo is a Korean style of karate emphasizing its own unique kicking techniques.
